Mexico

After being eliminated in the round of 16 in each of its previous seven attempts, Mexico is entering their eighth World Cup competition. They qualified for the World Cup after defeating El Salvador 2-0 on the penultimate matchday, finishing on the same number of points as Canada at the top of CONCACAF qualification and, more crucially, three points ahead of Costa Rica in the play-off spot.

Poland

Without a win, Poland recently finished last in the Euro 2020 standings. The legendary forward Robert Lewandowski's performance at a major event will have a significant impact on their chances of winning. They won four of their nine games while also finishing with a 2D-3L record, defeating Sweden in the qualifying play-offs to earn a spot in the competition. They are now confidently arriving in Qatar.

Prediction

In Mexico, there hasn't yet been such a bright generation. In order to better utilize the strengths of Zelinsky and Lewandowski, Poland rebuilt their system to a 3-5-2 with the addition of Cash and Zalevsky as dynamic extreme defenders.
